Painting rocks is a great activity you can enjoy any time of year, not just on warm days. Painting rocks is an activity you can spread over several days, giving kids a chance to relax, have fun, and learn something new.

Start by collecting pretty oval stones with the kids. Wash them at home and dry them. For the youngest artists, you'll find Mucki finger paints here, which they can use safely. Depending on their skills, they can apply the paints with their fingers, a sponge, or a brush.

Older kids who are no longer interested in finger painting can try gouache paints, which are water-based and dry really quickly. The bottles hold plenty, so the paints will last a long time at home. Kids can also mix them together to create lots of new shades.

Tip: With younger kids, they can first paint the whole stone one color to create a base for their next project.

If you decide to use thicker paints, be sure to choose tempera paints. For example, JOVI liquid tempera paint has excellent coverage. You can, of course, mix the shades together, and the paint won't peel after it dries.

Tip: If you're looking for ideas of what to paint, feel free to get inspired by the pictures in this blog. Kids can also make a simple stone like this one with their own name on it:

When we teach our kids to love nature, we should also consider eco-friendly paint options. For example, KREUL Nature natural paints are made in Germany with the environment in mind. Plus, a tree is planted for every two sets of paints sold. Artists young and old can create with the good feeling that, along with enjoying painting, they are helping our planet.

Painting rocks is a fun activity that kids and adults alike are sure to enjoy. You can do it at home or, for example, at family celebrations. Painting gives kids a chance to relax while developing their fine motor skills as they work with their fingers.
Have fun creating!
