How to Create Halloween Decorations

We also picked a few pieces from Grandma's garden to decorate our fall nook. Now we'll show you how to turn them into fun decorations in just a few simple, quick steps.

Step 1: When choosing a pumpkin, many people focus on finding one with a perfect outer surface. We chose this “imperfect” one because of its unusual look. Before working with the pumpkin, remember to clean off any dirt from the garden, such as soil, leaves, and the like.

Step 2: If you're using a template, trace it onto the pumpkin. We chose a simple picture and sketched it directly onto the surface with a pencil.

Start cutting at the stem. Cutting an opening in the top will give you enough room to scoop out the inside. You can use a tablespoon to help.

Tip: Remember, you can use the seeds for another creative project or in the kitchen.

Step 4: Work carefully. The most important thing is to choose the right knife, with a sharp tip.

Step 5: When carving, be careful not to press too hard on the pumpkin, as it may split. A little patience and careful work are all it takes, and your pumpkin is ready.

Tip: When cutting the opening at the top, make sure your cuts are at an angle parallel to the surface underneath. This will keep the cutout from falling inside the pumpkin.

It's up to you whether to put a candle inside the pumpkin. We tried a traditional one, but in the long run, an electric candle is sure to be a better choice since you don't have to keep checking on it or worry about an accident.
