5 Ways to Paint a Cat
Which Technique Should You Use?
Let's start with the simplest option: colored pencils. A good sketch is the foundation. If you're an experienced artist who likes to get straight to work, you can skip the sketch.
For drawing, we recommend reaching for quality colored pencils, which will do a lot of the work for you.
Our next tip is to focus on details.
Yes, we know that drawing one hair at a time isn't exactly what the greatest artists do. Still, the more carefully rendered details you add to your work, the better. Keep in mind, though, that even if your cat on paper doesn't happen to look like the reference, you can still create something unique that deserves a spot at least on the fridge. :)

A Template Made from Drawing Paper
A sure way to create the perfect cat is to use a template. You can easily make one from drawing paper or regular paper. As well as finding plenty of ready-made cat motif templates online, you can create your own.
Simply draw the outline of a cat on paper and cut out the sections that will form the basic motif.
You can use masking tape to attach the template to the surface, then simply remove it afterward.
Once the template is ready and attached to the surface, we can move on to the second part. It's up to you what you apply to it, but we recommend acrylic spray.
Spray it directly onto the surface, where the template will create a motif. If you want to add more detail to your painting, make templates for the details too, such as whiskers, eyes, and so on.

Add what you love to paint…
Many of us feel much more comfortable painting something we’ve already tried. So if you decide to paint something new, you can combine it with your favorite object or theme. For example, the way this little cat is combined with clothing. All you have to do is pick up your watercolors and get creative!

Get creative in an unconventional way!
If you’re tired of traditional painting and crafting, try something new. Lately, we’ve really been enjoying working on a dark surface. So we’d reach for a black canvas, which gives the painting a special charm. You can paint on it with gouache and acrylic paints.
